- Post secondary education and learning options
- Independent living skills
- Recreation/ leisure activities
Program Information
Students eligible for the Community Based Instruction Program have completed all of their academic credits required for graduation and have been given the opportunity to participate in graduation ceremonies with their age appropriate peers. Hours of support are individually determined, resulting in the student attaining employment, developing street safety skills, volunteering, and accessing community resources. Instructional activities are developed based on person-centered planning and reflect transitional outcomes leading to employment. Instruction is community focused, occurring at places such as job sites, public transportation, local businesses, recreation centers, and community organization and service sites. Instruction emphasizes skills that support independence and employment, such as communication, socialization, personal management, and vocational skills.
