  • How do I find my student’s portal ID?

Questions about portal ID’s can be sent to our registrar Tyra Becker at tyra_becker@lagovista.txed.net.

Can we do a month on and a month off?

TEA has stated that schools should offer a face to face option for students when county health officials allow. At this time, we are not offering a month to month option for students. Students must commit to either face to face or remote learning for one grading period (nine weeks).

How will students receive SPED services?

Students who receive special services or accommodations through special education and choose virtual learning will be served. Those student services will be implemented to the extent reasonably practicable in the virtual setting.

If a student chooses remote, what does cheer, football, band, etc. look like? Do they attend those periods?

If a student chooses to access learning remotely, they will be able to continue to participate in extracurricular UIL activities, as long as health guidelines allow. They should attend the class/practice as usual and then go home to attend their online classes.

    What will lunch look like?

Lunches will be socially distant. If numbers allow, we will continue to serve lunch in the cafeteria. Students will be asked to wear their masks until they are seated at their table to eat. If they get up to get something or use the restroom, they must put their mask back on. Tables will only allow a few students to sit in order to maintain safe distances. If there are too many students to safely eat in the cafeteria, some or all students will be asked to eat in their classrooms.

What does art or PALS look like remotely?

Art: Each student in art will receive their own art kit (fee associated) so that materials are not shared. Students that choose face to face or remote will likely do similar projects. In either setting it will be a project-based class that students can complete either at home or at school.

PALS: PALS will be used in virtual leadership roles. Our hope is to do virtual mentoring hangouts with younger students. They will also work with administration on school-wide issues.

What will the class size be and how will students transition?

Upon arrival students will have the temperature checked as they enter and then they will go straight to their first period class.

All classrooms will be set up so that students can be socially distant from other students and the teacher. If there are too many students in a classroom to maintain a safe distance, we will have an overflow class staffed by a district employee where students can go and the teacher of record will teach students in both rooms.

During transitions, students will adhere to one-way traffic hallways and stairwells in order to minimize face-to-face interactions. Hallways will be clearly marked and monitored to maintain safety.

At dismissal students must exit the building immediately and bus riders will be assigned an area to safely wait for their bus.

Will there be a freshman orientation?

Our orientation will be virtual this year. On August 10 and 11, we will have two opportunities each day from 7:30-10:00 AM and 5:00-7:00 PM at the high school for students to pick up their iPads. It will be a drive-through event and students will receive their iPads, schedules, and some information sheets about how to access important websites and apps. There will also be some YouTube tutorial videos that students can watch to learn how to navigate Canvas. New students will also have the opportunity to ask questions during a Google Hangout later that week.

Will there be access to lockers for school and athletics?

Lago Vista High School does not have lockers in the building. All of our classes are housed in Canvas, our online learning management system. Students do not have to carry textbooks, therefore we do not offer lockers for students.

The UIL has allowed access to locker rooms before and after practice. We will just ask that the kids be efficient and not use that space as a place to loiter.

Will summer projects for freshmen still remain?

Yes, if a class required an assignment during the summer, those assignments will still be due at the beginning of the school year.
