Web Accessibility Policy
Making websites accessible means building them in such a way that everyone can read and interact with them, including people with disabilities. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Texas Administrative Code Chapters 206 and 213 provide standards for state website accessibility.

The Section 508 standards are currently being reviewed and updated to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Standard. Please visit http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20/ for more information on the guidelines. It is Lago Vista ISD’s policy to ensure that new and updated content complies with WCAG 2.0

File Formats and Plug-ins:
HTML (Hypertext Markup Language): The format for web pages. The majority of the content on the TEA site is in HTML format. This format is generally the most accessible for screen reader users. PDF (Portable Document Format): A universal file format that preserves the look and layout of a printed document. These files are accessible through a free viewer published by Adobe. To access the free Adobe viewer, please visit http://get.adobe.com/reader. PDF files cannot be edited electronically. Tagged PDF files are generally accessible via assistive technologies.

Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel: Documents formatted in Microsoft Office 2007-2013 software. If you have an earlier version of MS Office you can access these files by downloading the Microsoft Compatibility Pack. You may download the Microsoft Compatibility Pack by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloadldetails.aspx?id= 3.

The site uses several techniques to improve accessibility for users with disabilities, some of whom may listen to the content of the site by using a screen reader. It provides equivalent text provided for images and other non-text elements. Header labels denote data tables. Color contrast is analyzed. Information is not conveyed solely through the visual interpretation of images.

Despite our efforts to make all pages and content on lagovistisd.net fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution. If you find that any information on the Lago Vista ISD website is not accessible, you can request it in a format for assistive readers by contacting the District's ADA/Section 504 Coordinator Darren Webb at darren_webb@lagovista.txed. When you contact us, please provide the following information:

• The nature of your accessibility problem
• The preferred format for the material
• The Web address of the requested material
• Your contact information

Lago Vista ISD also welcomes any comments on improving the site's accessibility. If the format of any material on our website interferes with your ability to access the information, please email holly_jackson@lagovista.txed.net.

More information about accessibility programs in Texas is available from the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities. For more information, please visit http://www.governor.state.tx.us/disabilities/.
