Lago Vista Middle School 2020-2021 FAQs

Face-to-Face Instruction
  • Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
    A B C A B

The big question is, what does a C Day look like? First, C Days will be every Wednesday from now until the end of the year.

There are three major purposes for C Days:

    1) Deep cleaning of the entire school building.
    2) Dedicated time to help and prep for our online students.
    3) Time to help our struggling learners who could benefit from small group instruction (by appointment only).

Students who are here, but who do not need small group instruction will work quietly and independently in the gym or cafeteria. In order to help us plan, we'd like to know who is coming - please fill out this form by Monday at noon. If you are not planning on attending; you do not need to fill out a form! We will send out this form every Friday for the following week.

What should students do during C Days?If your student is home during a C Day, they will need to fill out one attendance form, which is on the LVMS Google Classroom - make sure your student is signed into this class. The code is: 6dq3rwh

After that, your student will need to check into each of their classes for work.

Make sure your students are checking the morning announcements everyday - if they haven't been, they can be found on this Google Classroom: 6dq3rwh

  • Students will be allowed to revert to online instruction at any point in time. If a student would like to change from online to face-to-face, those changes can be made at the beginning of each new nine weeks grading period.

    • 2nd 9 Weeks- October 14
    • 3rd 9 Weeks- January 6
    • 4th 9 Weeks- March 12
  • Student desks will be placed six feet apart and will all face in the same direction. Students will have access to hand sanitizer at the beginning and end of each class.
  • Middle school students will be following a traditional eight period schedule and transitioning between classes throughout the day.
  • Students will be socially distanced while seated and waiting in line for lunches. Recess will be offered, but activities will be limited to allow for social distancing.
  • For the duration of the Governor’s face covering Order, students as well as all staff members, are required to wear masks at all times while indoors (including the weight room and gym). Masks are also required if individuals are outdoors but cannot socially distance. Face shields also satisfy the requirements of the Governor’s order. Any student refusing to wear a face covering will face disciplinary consequences. Repeated offenses may result in the student being removed from the face-to-face environment. Parents should provide masks for their students, but the school will have a small supply of masks if needed.
  • All students will be screened for temperature upon arrival. Any student reporting with a temperature of 100.0 or higher will be isolated and parents notified for pick up.
  • If a student tests positive, notification will be made to all parents. Face-to-face instruction will then be moved to online for a period of 5 days.
Online Instruction
  • Grading of online assignments will follow the district grading policies and align with the grading being done in face-to-face instruction. There will be no pass/fail moving forward. Late policies will also be in effect.
  • All electives will be offered online, however, exactly how these classes will look is still being determined. For band, specifically, we are awaiting UIL guidance. All College Readiness (formerly known as Pre-AP) courses will also be available online.
  • Each teacher will be available for appointments as needed. Students should contact their individual teachers to arrange this assistance.
  • The district has purchased several internet hotspots which will be available for distribution. If you are in need of a hotspot, please contact the middle school at 512-267-8300 x 2500.
  • Yes, students may use any device that they feel comfortable with. The district will be issuing all students (online and face-to-face) an iPad that will be preloaded with all needed applications. Upon return to face-to-face instruction, these iPads will be used in daily classroom instruction. iPad coverage is available for $50 in the case of any damage. This coverage is optional.
  • Yes. Online students will be allowed to participate, but students will be required to attend all practices and events and follow the athletic code of conduct. They will also be required to check in daily with their athletics class period online.
Parent Portal for Grades
LVISD uses Ascender Parent Portal to connect you with your students grades. By acquiring a Ascender account, you will be able to view your child(ren)'s grades and attendance. Parents of Lago Vista ISD students in grades 2-12 can use Ascender to access student grades, while all Lago Vista parents (kindergarten - grade 12) can use Ascender to check and keep up with their attendance.

Click here to connect to Ascender. You will need to create an account using the student code that was mailed home to each household (you may check with your campus secretary if you did not receive a letter in the mail).

Grades that appear on Ascender are as current as the teacher's electronic gradebook. Please allow adequate time for teachers to grade papers and enter the grades into the system. Remember, teachers have the full-time job of teaching, planning, collaborating, meeting, and assessing student work.

Questions concerning your child’s grades should be directed to the teacher.
